- Windows 10 will no longer be updated after October 14, 2025
- Windows 10 will still be operational on your computer, but will become unsafe to use on the internet
- Some websites will no longer be accessible, especially financial
- New software may not work on it
- Especially financial, like tax and accounting software
- There is no need to rush out and purchase a new computer with Window 11 on it, but if your computer runs into issues, you may want to consider a new computer, rather than putting money into a computer that will soon be obsolete
Microsoft is offering an extension for Windows 10 through its Extended Security Updates (ESU) program. For home users, the cost is $30 per year to extend security support beyond the October 2025 end-of-life date. This program allows users to receive security updates for an additional year, but it does not include new features, bug fixes, or technical support from Microsoft. For businesses, the cost is significantly higher, starting at $61 per device for the first year and doubling each subsequent year.
